Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Because every second counts in a newborn's first minutes of
life, Rush's Renée Schine Crown Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit is designed to make sure our tiniest patients get the care they
need the moment they enter the
world. Every detail of the NICU — including individual rooms for newborns — supports a healthier, more soothing environment for infants and their families.
Not all hospitals have intensive care for newborns, and in many that do, critical newborns are transported distances from the delivery suite to the NICU, wasting precious seconds and risking exposure to germs and infection. At Rush, the eighth floor will be dedicated entirely to obstetrics and neonatology, with the NICU located just steps away from the delivery rooms so babies can be in the hands of a specialized neonatology team within seconds after delivery.
Rush’s neonatal program is widely recognized as one of the largest and most sophisticated programs in Illinois, and the new NICU — which opens in September 2013 — will further enhance Rush’s reputation as a leader in neonatology.
